Inaugural Local Association Launched in Houston
Following the Board of Trustees unanimous approval of the Alumni Self-Study Commission's Recommendations in April 2002, the Local Association Task Force was appointed by the Implementation Steering Committee, to study one of the recommendations, the establishment of a local association program. In July 2003, the Local Association Task Force concluded its charge. Their recommendations include launching the first local association program in Houston. For more than 10 years, the Alumni Association Board of Directors has worked with an active group of alumni in Houston. The Houston Association of Southwestern University Alumni will provide a way for alumni to connect within their own community. It will also offer an overall enhancement of programming for Southwestern alumni. Visit the

ALUMNI HAPPENINGS:
Houston's Hot! Get Chilled.
Escape the Houston heat! Thursday, July 15, join the Houston Association of Southwestern University Alumni for an evening of chills. At 5:30 p.m., join alumni for a happy hour of frosty drinks and free appetizers at Zin Restaurant & Bar, 401 Louisiana Street. At 7 p.m. head over to the Alley Theatre for Agatha Christie's clever murder mystery,
Black Coffee. Tickets cost $15 and are limited. Event coordinator is

The Class of 1979 reunion plans include a party Saturday night at Duke's Smokehouse (October 23, 2004 at 7:30 PM), with a porch and lawn next to the San Gabriel River that is perfect for great visiting. An excellent group of "party people" is working on the plans. To be included, send an e-mail to David Simmons '79 at

The Southwestern Intercollegiate Athletic spring season might be over, but that doesn't mean that there isn't athletic activity on campus. Many of the athletic teams are holding summer camps for kids.
